MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1995. Ongoing, but has been revived in several parallel issues since its start.

The Witchblade is the product of a temporary union between the two opposing forces in the universe, the Darkness (a male spirit) and the Angelus (a female spirit). The resulting entity - that can transform into a gauntlet, a bracelet, or a sword - requires a female host to work, of which there have been numerous throughout the ages.
At present the host is the former New York homicide detective Sara Pezzini, who was killed in action, but Witchblade resurrected her and gave her access to its immense powers via a symbiosis-like relationship.
