The series premiered in
1956*. Stopped in 1994.
The strip circles about a
boy named Winthrop, who lives in a suburban area
filled with, mostly, other children with whom he
interacts in strictly non-violent actions. He is
a pondering youth who is often misunderstood. The
series bears some similarity to Peanuts.
* The initial title for the strip
was Morty Meekle, referencing to a
family strip featuring a slender teenager with a
girlfriend named Jill Wortle. In the series she
has a younger brother named Winthrop. Some of the
small kids in the strip survived into its second
chapter beginning in 1967, when Winthrop took
center stage.
