The series premiered in
1986. Stopped in 1987.
The stories take place in
the USA in 1985, where 6 new superheroes have
emerged partly to take over from former,
unspecified superheroes who have retired. The new
superheroes are known as The Comedian (Edward
Blake), Doctor Manhattan (Jon Osterman), Nite Owl
(Daniel Dreiberg), Ozymandias (Adrian Veidt),
Rorschach (Walter Joseph Kovacs), and Silk
Spectre (Laurie Juspeczyk).
The series is not necessarily a
traditional superhero story, because it requires
an adult's point of view for full appreciation.
Thus it comes through as being slightly more
realistic (for a superhero world!) by also
featuring social, political, and sexual topics.
