The series premiered in 1971.
Stopped in 1980 after 73 issues, but continued under the Whitman label until
1984 (additional 14 issues).
The nameless, starring character
is a laid back, upright panther of unusual colour. He calmly walks about doing
very little (and talking even less), but his surroundings always seem to have
small surprises for him. Despite the occurring difficulties he has the ability
to deal with them in a composed manner. A recurring character is a little,
choleric man known only as Inspector (he later starred in his own series titled
The Inspector).
The character was created for a film series starring the bumbling Parisian police inspector Jacques Clouseau, where he emerged as
the presenter of the opening titles and credits only.
Initially, the full title of the series was The Pink Panther
and the Inspector.
