Personal dates: Founded in 1934 by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson (1890-1968) as National Allied Publications, but the name changed in 1937 to Detective Comics (later shortened to DC). Stopped in 2011.

MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1969*. Stopped in 1976 after 41 issues.

The shadowy title character emerges as a crime fighting character, but besides this he is an absolute enigma; his name is unknown, his origin and background are unknown, and his powers are unknown. He is not masked but wears his brimmed hat over his eyes. He portrays himself as a perfect phantom.
