The character of The Phantom is the first masked mystery avenger in the comics. He is known as The Ghost Who Walks and The Man Who Cannot Die. His home base is in the Skull Cave deep in the Bengali jungle (supposedly somewhere in Africa) where he is protected by the Bandar pygmies.
The Phantom, whose real name is Kit Walker, deals with crime and solves mysteries, and he sometimes leaves the jungle in a disguise consisting of hat and coat. He has two animal helpers - the wolf Devil and the horse Hero.
