MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1962.

The title character is the alter ego of physicist Bruce Banner, who was accidentally exposed to the detonation of a gamma bomb. This caused Banner to involuntarily transform into a green, super-strong, oversized, raging monster leading to complications in Banner's life. Although the Hulk primarily helps by fighting badmen, his overwhelming strength and temperament also causes destruction, which often leads him on a collision course with the armed forces.

Prior to 1962 Marvel Comics had launched other characters by the name of Hulk. In 1960 The Hulk premiered in Strange Tales, and in the same year Xemnu The Living Hulk was introduced in Journey Into Mystery. In 1961 a monster called The Hulk saw daylight in Tales To Astonish.
