MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1940. Stopped in 1954 after 38 issues.

The starring character is also known as James 'Jim' Hammond, an android (and not a human) created by scientist Phineas Horton. He is a superhero who surrounds himself with fire and is in control of flames, and he often helps the New York police force in fighting villains often accompanied by another 'torch' namely the young Thomas 'Toro' Raymond.

The title character is NOT the same as the one starring in Fantastic Four.
