MAIN STORY
The series premiered in 1917. Stopped in 1959.

The initial plot idea was extremely simple. The series was to portray an ordinary American family living an ordinary life in ordinary surroundings. The dominant characters are Andy Gump, his wife Minerva, called Min, and the rich uncle Bim.

The artificial word Gumps was invented by Joseph Patterson, editor of the Chigaco Tribune, and was supposed to refer to uneducated persons from the ordinary masses.
