The series premiered in
1963. Stopped in 1971 after 21 issues.
The series' characters (of which Jed Clampett is
the patriarch) are a closely knitted family from the backwoods
mountains, who suddenly strike oil and move to Beverly Hills in
California. Although they come across as being rather dimwitted
they manage to overcome any cultural misconceptions and
questionable morals they encounter in their own unimpressed and
unsophisticated way.
The series is a spinoff from a situation comedy TV
series that ran from 1962 to 1971 (274 episodes).
