Personal dates: Founded in 1934 by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson (1890-1968) as National Allied Publications, but the name changed in 1937 to Detective Comics (later shortened to DC). Stopped in 2011.

MAIN STORY
The series premiered in 1962*. Stopped in 1968 after 38 issues.

The starring character in this second run* of five is professor Ray Palmer who experiments with a white dwarf star matter, that allows him to shrink to small sizes thus being able to neutralize his villainous opponents. The Atom is also a member of the Justice Society.

* The character was first published in 1940 and named Al Pratt. He started out as a puny student, but after a mugging he trained himself up to be a muscular guy who could fight criminals.
