MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1987. Stopped in 1989 after 8 issues.

The title character is Dennis Hough, who used to be an alcoholic reporter, until he became an American hero not unlike Captain America.
But soon Hough discovers that the government agency that has hired him has fashioned several identical Americans like himself as backups in order to give the impression that The American is indestructible. The agency simply replaces dead members when they die on dangerous missions. Hough now decides to blow the lid of the shady operation.
