MAIN STORY
The series premiered in 1947. Stopped in 1988 following Caniff's death.

The character of Steve Canyon - who was modelled after American actor Gary Cooper - began as a private transport pilot but he soon joined the armed forces in the Korean conflict.
The series had several main characters as sidekicks, mostly former veterans from World War 2, but they never lasted. Caniff also made generous use of beautiful women of which the mysterious and villianous Copper Calhoun was present in some of the stories.
