This is a weekly magazine that from its start has contained numerous action and humour series mostly of Belgian/French origin. It is named after one of the recurring characters from the series Spirou et Fantasio (the word Spirou is a Walloon (Belgian) term meaning Squirrel and Lively Kid).

The magazine has been retitled several times over the years; Le Journal de Spirou (1938-1947), Spirou (1947-1988), Spirou Magaziiiine (1988-1994), Spirou (1994-2006), Spirou HeBDo (2006-2008), Spirou (2008-present).
