MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1955. Stopped in 1962 after 21 issues.

The two title characters are the bulldog father Spike (sometimes named Butch or Killer) and his son Tyke. Spike is often presented as a stern but dumb dog, but he is forever attempting to protect the often mindless Tyke against all calamities.

The full title of the series is M.G.M.'s Spike and Tyke.

The series is partly based on the animated short cartoon series Tom & Jerry, in which the two dogs appeared sporadically, but they were also starring in two cartoons of their own in 1957.
