Name: DC (American comics corporation).
Personal dates: Founded in 1934 by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson (1890-1968) as National Allied Publications, but the name changed in 1937 to Detective Comics (later shortened to DC). Stopped in 2011.

Comments: The corporation's logo changed several times over the years. The selected one ran from 1976 to 2005.

 

 

MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1956. Stopped in 1970 after 93 issues, but has been revived several times since then under different titles such as Showcase Presents... and New Talent Showcase.

The series was introduced as a feeler from DC introducing new characters (mostly superheroes) to the readers. If the new characters proved to be marketable they would receive their own series. This happened several times; examples are Green Lantern, Hawk & Dove, Rip Hunter, Sea Devils, The Atom, and The Flash.
