The series premiered in 1977.

The series takes place in the fictitious locale of Treetops, East Virginia, where a group of anthropomorphic birds work in publishing for a magazine titled The Treetop Tattler-Tribune. Although the magazine is neither good nor popular the company has a long list of employees, of which P. Martin Shoemaker called Shoe is the editor, and Cosmo Fishhawk called Perfessor is the primary reporter. The days go by without much work being done; instead the characters concentrate on their own personal interests.
