The series was a spinoff from the film and television series by the same name starring actor Roy Rogers (born Leonard Slye). Just as in the series Hopalong Cassidy - which was also a film and television series from the Old West - Rogers strives to make the country a better place to live by fighting all bandits and outlaws on his way. Rogers is usually accompanied by his trusty horse Trigger.
