The series premiered in 1920. Stopped in 1940 due to paper shortage caused by World War 2, but has since been continued by Danish artists as Willy på Eventyr.

The title character (whose last name is never revealed) is a young pilot travelling from one adventure to another starting in different, earthly locations and continuing as science fiction. To some extent there is a temporal continuation in the series; Rob started out in a marine airplane called SM3, and he then moved on to SM4, later a jetplane, and then more updated versions of the SM series that also travel in Space. Rob is often accompanied by a young girl named Joan.
