The series premiered in 1983. Stopped in 1986.

The series, a trilogy, takes place during the European 30-year war that lasted from 1618 to 1648. Two frightened and delapidated persons, the scavenger girl (rakkertøs in Danish) Herle and the peasant Mikkel, meet by coincidence and decide to travel the countryside together in order to survive the harsh times, when German mercenaries ravage the peninsula of Jutland.
