A group of orphaned French boys led by an American boy called Peter Panzerfaust* try to evade the Nazi occupants at the start of World War 2. In doing so they flee from the coastal city of Calais to Paris, where they come in touch with the French resistance movement.

* A Panzerfaust was a one-man carried German rocket type constructed to destroy tanks.
