The series premiered in 2009. Ongoing.

In a parallel timeline a disease has wiped out most of the male population of feudal Japan, and the result is that women have taken over most of the activities one of which is the title as Shogun. The term Ōoku refers to the chambers inside Edo Castle, where the Shogun resides.

The full title of the series is Ōoku The Inner Chambers.
