The series premiered in 1986.

The long-running series depicts a young Cretan daughter of a queen, who lives through kidnapping and slavery in the ancient Mediterranean theater only to wind up as a High-Priestess in the Pharaohs' Egypt. From now on her time is divided between court intrigues and travels to neighbouring empires. The stories are built on historical facts, although the character of Nofret is pure fiction.
