MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1970.

The small but dominating character (literally) in this series is the senior citizen Sonja Hobbs, known affectionally as Momma, despite her bossy and nagging personality. She has three grown children none of which quite live up to her expectations: Frank is an idle slacker, Marylou has constant boyfriend troubles, and Thomas has - in Momma's opinion - married the wrong girl. All of them consider Momma an emotional burden.

The series is one of the first 'flounder-face comics', meaning that most (not all) of the characters' two eyes are both visible from the side from which they are shown in the panels.
