Unusual series in several ways; many of the events take place on a yacht in the Chinese Sea, the primary character Ming Foo is an old-fashioned Chinese sage (complete with robe, mandarin hat and pigtail), and the dialogue is filled with seemingly profound Chinese aphorisms and recitations starting with phrases like It is written that... and It has been truly said that...
The series has two other main characters who mainly serve as sidekicks for Foo; the ship's captain (who has no name) and an American boy.
