The title character Mathai-Dor is a strong and determined young man who has survived a worldwide atomic holocaust. He is now on a journey scouring the land for other survivors, and he manages to find isolated groups of people, friendly and hostile. At his side he has his black panther, Vega, that helps him out from time to time. Mathai-Dor's ultimate goal - and his main reason for travelling - is to find someone who possesses fire, the most precious thing in the post nuclear age.
