CREATOR

The series premiered in 1987, but already from 1952 the character of Marsupilami participated in several Spirou et Fantasio albums (in which he was known as the only living specimen of its kind). However, when he got his own series his species suddenly became more plentiful.

The main character Marsupilami is a yellow, spotted monkey-like fantasy figure living with his family in the deep jungles of South America in the fictional country of Palombia. He is very agile and his most prominent bodily feature is his tail which is extremely long and versatile; it is used for all sorts of purposes such as a lasso, a spring, and a boxing tool.

The word Marsupilami is a morpheme of Marsupial (a type of mammal) and Ami (French for Friend).
