The series premiered in 1930. Stopped in 1950 following the creator's death.

The dominating character is the draper Madsen, who owns a store in a small town. His daily life is divided between managing his employees - of which the junior helper Søren is the most recurring - and his tyrannical wife Leopoldine.
The series reflects contemporary events in Denmark; for instance, the general shortage of goods and material during World War 2 became a long running theme.
