The series premiered in
1983. Stopped in 1991.
The stories are contained
in 7 albums describing events from 1601 to 1627
in France. Mainly, the events circle around
intrigues at the French royal court. A masked
Zorro-like vigilante known as L'Épervier (The
Hawk) - who is really a woman named Ariane de
Troïl - intervenes in order to put a stop to
injustice. At one point she falls into the hands
of the infamous Inquisition, which causes her to
lose her left arm.
The series incorporates several historical
characters such as Henri IV, Louis XIII, Marie de
Médicis, and Cardinal Richelieu.
The French title Les 7 Vies de L'Épervier
means The 7 Lives of the Hawk in English.
