The series premiered in
1977.
The character of Léonard is a self-proclaimed
inventor genius living sometimes in the
Renaissance. His name has been taken from his
idol Leonardo da Vinci, and Léonard also dabbles
with great - and usually fanciful - inventions
that are ahead of their time.
As his aid he uses Basile Landouye, who is mostly
a rather reluctant and unenthusiastic assistant,
especially when Léonard uses him as a guinea-pig.
Léonard calls him Disciple, while Basile calls
his employer Master.
