MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1965*. Stopped in 1969 after 28 issues, but continued titled Josie and the Pussycats until 1982 (additional 62 issues).

The main character is Josette 'Josie' McCoy**, a lively and wellmeaning, redheaded teenage girl, who often finds herself in goofy situations not unlike the title character in Archie. Josie is very interested in contemporary rock music, and she eventually becomes the lead guitarist and singer in a band named Josie and the Pussycats.

* The series started in 1963 titled She's Josie (16 issues), thus the numbering of the series on this page starts at #17. ** Her surname has also been stated as Jones and James.
