MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1977*. Stopped in 1979 after 28 issues, but has been revived briefly in several series since then.

The title character is a man from Virginia, USA, who is visiting the planet Mars, which is called Barsoom by its inhabitants. Carter decides to remain on the planet to help the Martians dispose of destructive villains, hostile aliens, and terrifying beasts.

The full title of the series is John Carter Warlord of Mars.

* Initially, the character was invented by Tarzan novelist Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1912, and a few books and series were launched during the in-between years.
