The character of Jeff Hawke started out as an RAF pilot, but soon he was travelling space - supposedly during the 1990s - as a Flash Gordon-like, heroic character. The righteous Hawke (who is known as the First Citizen of the Space Age) uses his many skills, which include avial education and scientific knowledge, to help the goodnatured aliens he meet. Strangely, many of them look like sexy ladies, which makes Hawke's tasks extra interesting, but he also maintains an ironic distance to his work.
