The series premiered in
1973.
The series stars an anthropomorphic
duck, who is, in appearance, reminiscent of
Disney's Donald Duck*. Still, there are
some major differences, the greatest being that
Howard is placed in a superhero universe, while
Donald belongs in a funny animal universe.
Furthermore, Howard lives in a satirical - and
often bizarre - sphere with social realism as a
recurring theme, he smokes big cigars - and he
wears trousers!
* Disney would not accept the
closeness in overall appearance, so Howard was
forced to wear trousers (pants in American
English).
