MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1977. Stopped in 1981 after 179 issues.

The title character is a good-natured and helpful 5-year old orphant girl, who is being raised by her uncle called Alpöhi in the Swiss Alps.

The series as such is loosely based on the Swiss author Johanna Spyri's two famous books that were first published in 1880/1881. Since then there has been numerous adaptations of the theme of Heidi in diverse media. The series on this page is partly built on a Japanese cartoon TV show that started in Germany in 1977 (52 episodes).
