MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1951*. Stopped in 1955 after 22 issues, but has been revived in several brief runs since then.

The title characters are antagonistic, anthropomorphic magpies who spend their lives outwitting their surroundings. They are identical in appearance, but slightly different in character; Heckle is more confrontational, whereas Jeckle is more devious.

The characters first appeared as animated shorts from 1946 to 1966, and they then went on to TV shows from 1969 to 1981.

* The numbering starts at #3, because the characters started in 2 issues of Blue Ribbon Comics from 1949 (issues 1 and 3).
