Name: Archie Comic Publications, Inc. (American comics corporation).
Personal dates: Founded as MLJ Magazines (the initials of the founders' first names) in 1939 by Maurice Coyne, Louis Silberkleit, and John L. Goldwater, but the name was soon changed. Ongoing.

Comments: The company's lasting name was taken from the immensely popular teenage character Archie, who has always been the flagship, but the company also publishes series in other genres.

MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1942*. Stopped in 1943 after 7 issues, but was retitled Black Hood.

The main character is a highly secretive and elusive, cloaked superhero known as Hangman (possibly named Bob Dickering out of disguise), who neutralizes American adversaries during World War 2. He is often assisted by a group known as Boy Buddies consisting of several partners such as Dusty the Boy Detective and Roy the Superboy.
