MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 2003. Stopped in 2006 after 18 issues.

The 15-year old schoolgirl Miaka Yuki visits the National Library, where she is suddenly dragged into a mysterious book titled The Universe of the Four Gods, which is loosely based on Chinese mythological creatures. Appearing into a fictional Chinese feudal society Yuki becomes a High Priestess, while she seeks a way back to her own time.

The series' Japanese title Fushigi Yûgi (or Yuugi) has several similar meanings but may translate into Mysterious Play, a term that is also used as subtitle on the front covers.
