Personal dates: Founded in 1934 by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson (1890-1968) as National Allied Publications, but the name changed in 1937 to Detective Comics (later shortened to DC). Stopped in 2011.

MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1976*. Stopped in 1978 after 15 issues, but has been revived 4 times since then under the title Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters.

The title characters are a large group of lesser known superheroes led by one of the founding members, Uncle Sam. They attempt to rid the world of villains, a job where they are sometimes aided by other, more well known, superheroes.

* Some of the participating superheroes have a past reaching back to 1941 where they fought the Axis powers during World War 2.
