The series premiered in 1942. Stopped in 1988 following Engholm's death.

The character of Frede Fedthas is an elderly gentleman with correct appearances and impeccable manners. His only flaw is that he is the tightwad of all times. He never spends a dime unless he has to, and even then he tries to wriggle himself out of the obligation.
The strip follows him in everyday situations, where he is sometimes accompanied by relatives and friends. A specialty is that Engholm would oftentimes put in small sequences in the panels that had absolutely nothing to do with the events just as it was commonly done decades later in the American Naked Gun films starring a hopeless police detective played by Leslie Nielsen.

The title of the strip was Frede Fedthas for the first 4 years.
