The series premiered in 1969.

The series started off as a so-called comic strip topper to The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, where it - despite the technical term - appeared as a separate strip at the bottom of the strips. A year after its initial premiere Fat Freddy's Cat received its own series as a spinoff.
The nameless and very smart cat is known as an orange tomcat belonging to Fat Freddy Freekowtski, whom it usually despices. It strolls through life with other and more sound views than its owner; for one it is against drugs.
