The series premiered in 1988.

The humorous strip is named after the nice but rather slow guy, Ernie Floyd, but he is by no means taking center stage. An abundance of ever-changing characters populate the strip, but a few are recurring such as Ernie's uncle Sid Fernwilter and his pet piranha called Earl. Another recurring character is the creator himself!

In 1998 the series was renamed Piranha Club.
