premiered in 1949. Stopped in 1956. The series was ordered by the
publisher mogul William Randolph Hearst, who
stated: I need a vivid kind of adventure
strip in the comic section incorporating American
history and the youthful lives of our American
heroes and how they developed into great men.
The main plot describes a teenager, who is
constantly dreaming himself back in time to meet
a host of famous people - beginning with
Christopher Columbus! Later, he gets involved
with Coronado, Pocahontas, Blackbeard, Davy
Crockett, George Washington, and Robert Fulton -
to name a few.
As time went on it became increasingly more
difficult to 'dream up' more stories, Hearst was
dead, and the series ceased. The full name of the
series is Dick's Adventures in Dreamland.
