The series premiered and
stopped in 1955.
For decades Disney has made
numerous feature films with actors. Several of
the films were adapted for comic books in the
Four Color series. One of the series is Davy
Crockett, who is portrayed as one of the
USAs most heroic persons in different roles*.
Together with his close friend, George 'Georgie'
Russel, he survives various dangerous encounters
with unfriendly Indians and river pirates, but
his righteousness and common sense sees them both
through all hardships until their heroic demise.
The stories were written/drawn by a number of
artists such as Jesse Mace Marsh (1907-1966),
Giovanni 'John' Francesco Liggera (1913-1972),
Michael 'Mike' H. Arens (1915-1976), Anthony 'Tony'
Joseph Strobl (1915-1991), Del G. Connell (1918-2011),
John Ushler (1919-1998).
In the Little Hiawatha series a
character named Li'l Davy sometimes emerged. He
resembles Crockett in overall appearance - but he
is portrayed as being the same age as Hiawatha.
* The character of Davy Crockett is
based on a real person. He was born David Stern
Crocket (one T) and lived from 1786 to 1836. He
was a soldier, pioneer, trapper, and politician.
