The series premiered in
1964.
The series started with
Matthew 'Matt' Michael Murdock being blinded by a
radioactive substance, which, on the other hand,
increases his remaining senses dramatically.
Dressed in a special costume that disguises his
identity, Murdock now uses these superhero powers
to fight villains - mostly under the cover of the
dark nights where he can 'see' better than his
opponents. Murdock then presents himself as
Daredevil. His nickname is The Man Without Fear.
The creators borrowed the main
concept as well as the title from an earlier
superhero. He was the brainchild of Jack Binder
and Jack Cole, and that series lasted from 1940
to 1956.
Another character named Daredevil but without superpowers was
published from 1941 in a series titled Daredevil Comics.
