Name: DC (American comics corporation).
Personal dates: Founded in 1934 by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson (1890-1968) as National Allied Publications, but the name changed in 1937 to Detective Comics (later shortened to DC). Stopped in 2011.

Comments: The corporation's logo changed several times over the years. The selected one ran from 1976 to 2005.

 

 

MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1988. Stopped in 1991 after 33 issues, but was revived from 2006 to 2008 (31 issues) under the title Checkmate (without the exclamation mark).

The title name covers a covert operations agency, whose members are sent on dangerous missions on a worldwide basis to secure American interests. The name also refers to the agency's hierachical structure modelled after pieces in the game of chess.
