The series premiered in
1949. Stopped in 1952 after 9 issues.
Initially, the title character was a ventriloquist's dummy, but
in this comic book series he has his own life and freedom of
movement. The intelligent and ressourceful McCarthy gets involved
in numerous adventures, in which he occasionally is accompanied
by a rather dimwitted sidekick named Mortimer Snerd.
The series is a spinoff from a radio show titled
The Chase and Sanborn Hour, that ran from 1937 to 1956.
