The series premiered in 1952.

The title character is a pirate, who is primarily a fierce adversary to Peter Pan and he is constantly trying to neutralize him. But Hook is not as bright as Pan, partly because he allows his plans to be unintentionally thwarted by the inept second in command Mister Smee. Hook obtained his name after a crocodile bit off his left hand, and it is still lurking in the vicinity of Hook much to his horror.

The character originates from the 1953(!) animated Disney feature film titled Peter Pan.
