The series premiered in 1913. Stopped in 2000 making it the longest running daily strip in the world.

The series tells about a newly-rich Jiggs - originally an Irish immigrant and winner of the Irish sweepstake - who tries to lead a normal life despite his wife's and daughter's distinct social-climbing inclinations. Jiggs prefers to spend his time with his old pals, and he grabs every opportunity to escape from home to do just that.

It is unclear whether the name of Jiggs is a first name or a family name, and McManus never told us...
