The character of Black Hood is not one but many persons of both genders. When they come into possession of the special hood they change personality (increased strength, speed, and agility) and fight injustice.
The hood once belonged to an executioner who beheaded a witch, but before the execution she cursed the hood to compel any future bearer of it to do only good deeds.

* Initially, the character was first published in a series in 1940. The one on this page is the third publication of four.
